Woof woof 

So, here’s the story: One day, my human noticed how much I love attention. I mean, I’m a Labrador, what can I say? I get excited when people are around, especially children. Sometimes, though, things get a little too close for comfort, like when they come running up to me at full speed. I’m friendly (obviously!), but like any dog, I need my space. That's when my human had this idea: “What if I write a book about how to approach dogs, especially ones like Luna?”

And that’s how Not So Close was born! I was the inspiration because my human wanted to help kids understand that while dogs like me are fun to play with, it’s important to ask permission and learn how to approach us in a way that makes us both feel safe and happy. And of course, being the centre of attention, I’m in the book! In the future, some of my other family friends might make an appearance in other stories.

My human dedicated the book to another human, but let’s be honest, the book is all about me.

I might have inspired the stories, but my human does all the hard work (well, most of it) to bring them to life. She even added some puzzles to keep things fun and interactive. My favourite part? Seeing myself in the beautiful illustrations by Marian Dominguez (@mard_illus), obviously!

 

A Quick Note: Just a heads up—I’m not a professional dog trainer or behaviourist, and neither is my human! We’re just sharing our personal story, and we hope it helps kids understand how to approach dogs in a kind and safe way. If you ever need specific advice for your dog, it’s always best to consult a qualified expert.
